Two videos carrying While My Guitar Gently Weeps can document very different creative work. The first selection here belongs to the 1987 Prince’s Trust Rock Gala. The second presents the Beatles’ LOVE version through a music video released much later. Keeping the arrangements and publication histories distinct makes their comparison more useful.
George Harrison wrote the composition for the Beatles’ 1968 self-titled album. The band’s official song account also identifies Eric Clapton’s lead-guitar contribution to that recording. This authorship and recording context belongs to the song’s history; it does not make every later version a replay of the same session.
The LOVE project’s audio credits name George Martin and Giles Martin as producers, another distinction from the live musical responsibilities in the gala selection.
The gala performance

The charity’s archival upload identifies Harrison and Ringo Starr within its 1987 gala presentation. A concert version gives the composition a present ensemble setting, with the responsibilities of performing it shared among the musicians involved.
A useful listening focus is the relationship between a featured line and the framework around it. The voice can carry the verbal statement; an instrumental contribution can extend the song’s direction; accompaniment can make the transition between them continuous. Those roles matter more than treating every recognizable face as an independent highlight.
The LOVE version has another production history

The Beatles’ official account describes the LOVE selection as an acoustic version with a string arrangement made by George Martin in 2006. The music video was released in 2016 in connection with the Cirque du Soleil show’s tenth anniversary and restaging.
Those are three separate pieces of information: the song’s earlier authorship, a later musical arrangement and a still later visual presentation. The video is not previously unseen footage of the Beatles performing together in 1968, and its publication year is not the original song’s release date.
A controlled comparison
| Keep in view | Compare |
|---|---|
| The same composition | Which elements make the tune and narrative recognizable? |
| Different arrangements | How is attention distributed around the central line? |
| Different images | Is the picture documenting performers or presenting a separate visual interpretation? |
These questions prevent sound and image from doing the same explanatory job. A visual sequence can create another route through the music without showing the people who made every audible contribution.
The string arrangement is especially useful context because it identifies a deliberate change of resources. A composition can retain its identity while another instrumental setting changes its scale, density and sense of continuity.
A later mix is not a new composition

The official Here Comes the Sun selection is labeled a 2019 mix. It changes the song and provides another reminder that publication, mixing and composition dates describe different events. A later presentation can belong to an established catalogue without pretending that the material was newly written.
Returning to the gala after these distinctions lets each selection keep its own purpose. One presents a concert interpretation; another reworks recorded material for a theater-related project and a later video. The song connects them, while their different creative decisions give the listener something specific to compare.
