The 1987 Prince’s Trust gala and Concert for George both present “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” but they have different relationships with its writer. The first includes George Harrison himself. The second belongs to a later tribute celebrating his music.
The Beatles’ official song account credits Harrison with the 1968 composition and identifies Eric Clapton’s guitar contribution to the original recording. That supplies a shared history behind the later concerts without making them the same performance or recording session.

The composer can also be a present interpreter
The charity’s archival upload names Harrison and Ringo Starr and identifies the 1987 Rock Gala. Harrison’s presence creates a direct relationship between the writer and the current performance, while the surrounding musicians still make their own contributions.
Authorship does not mean one person produces every sound. A concert arrangement gives other players responsibilities in carrying the composition. A recognizable guitar feature and the supporting framework belong to the same ensemble task.
For a focused note, follow the transition between a sung statement and an instrumental passage. Identify what keeps the performance connected while attention moves. That explains collaboration more clearly than treating each familiar face as a separate attraction.
The tribute has its own date and purpose

The official Harrison archive dates Concert for George to November 29, 2002, at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Its original filmed and audio releases followed in 2003. The concert occasion and release year should remain separate.
Here Harrison’s music provides the organizing subject, while other musicians undertake the performance. The writer is the artist being remembered, rather than a participant who should be described as present on the stage.
That change matters without requiring a claim about every performer’s private grief. The public event supplies a clear tribute frame; the musical work still needs to be heard through the relationships among the participants.
The song stays, the responsibilities change
Choose one complete section across the gala and the tribute. What makes the composition recognizable, and how do the current voices and instruments distribute its material? Keep the comparison tied to the same musical task.
A later performance need not reproduce every detail of the earlier one to retain the connection. A tribute can honor a composition through another arrangement, while the earlier gala remains a record of the writer interpreting his own work with collaborators.
Another 1987 upload needs its own identification

The final upload names Harrison and Clapton and labels the performance 1987. Compare its content and event information before counting it as another concert. A different publisher or title can present the same occasion in another form.
The three selections therefore support two different relationships: a comparison between separate occasions, and a check between differently published 1987 presentations. Those questions should not be merged.
A clear account can name the song, the people present, the event, and the release. The gala and Concert for George then keep their distinct purposes while remaining connected through Harrison’s composition and the work of musicians bringing it into performance.
