Kelly Clarkson’s live trio performance of her classic song “Heartbeat Song” brought her 9-year-old daughter, River Rose, and son, Remington “Remy” Alexander, together for a truly memorable occasion. During Clarkson’s Bakkt Theater show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the family trio delivered a heartfelt rendition of the hit synth-pop song, creating an unforgettable moment.
Since “Heartbeat Song” is her daughter’s favorite, River Rose took center stage, harmonizing with her mother. Clarkson mentioned that River Rose had been performing this song since she was a toddler and that she loves it so much. When asked what song she wanted to sing on tour, River Rose eagerly chose this one, even insisting, “Please let me sing this song.”

Clarkson further shared with the crowd that River Rose had picked out her own outfit for the performance. After the soundcheck, where the young girl “killed it,” she was invited to perform live. Fans expressed their admiration for the mother-daughter duo, with comments like, “That’s a moment she will never forget,” and “A star is born!”
The following night, Clarkson invited River Rose to sing again during her residency, and for an added touch of charm, her 7-year-old brother, Remington Alexander, joined in as well.
Both of Clarkson’s children were born during her marriage to her then-manager, Brandon Blackstock. River Rose and Remington Alexander were welcomed into the world in June 2014 and April 2016, respectively, following the couple’s October 20, 2013, wedding. The couple’s divorce was finalized in March 2022, following a lengthy legal process that garnered significant media attention.
“Heartbeat Song” served as the lead single from Clarkson’s seventh studio album, Piece by Piece. The song, which became her biggest hit in the past decade, received warm reception and achieved platinum status in the United States. It topped the US Dance Club Songs chart and made its way to the top of several other national charts globally, peaking at number ten.
The songwriters Mitch Allan, Kara DioGuardi, Jason Evigan, and Audra Mae penned “Heartbeat Song.” However, the song’s origins later sparked some controversy, as critics noted similarities in melody and chords to Jimmy Eat World’s 2001 alternative rock hit “The Middle.”
In response to the criticism, Clarkson clarified that she had only performed the song and had not written it. She admitted, “I just sang the song; I didn’t write it. I missed that, though. Nobody worked behind the scenes.” She also praised Jimmy Eat World’s statement, “Hey, no harm, no foul,” as very cool. Despite the initial concerns about a potential lawsuit, Jimmy Eat World did not pursue legal action, and the band remains uncredited as co-writers on “Heartbeat Song.”
