Willie Nelson shares his motivation for still hitting the road for tours at 90.
Willie Nelson has been captivating audiences for nearly six decades and shows no signs of taking a break.
The renowned musician is about to celebrate his 90th birthday this month, yet he remains as dedicated as ever to his craft, continuing to produce high-quality music and perform live for his countless fans.
Nelson, who embarked on his music career with a major deal with Liberty Records in 1962, plans to spend his 90th birthday on the road. In a recent conversation with AARP, he mentioned that although he doesn’t need to work, it benefits him greatly.
“Work is really beneficial for me, regardless of the type of performance,” he mentioned.
He’s excited about an upcoming two-day event where many close friends will join him on stage for a memorable time. “It’s going to be enjoyable, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The entertainment industry has several examples of celebrities who continue their craft well into their later years – Dick Van Dyke (97), Michael Caine (89), and David Attenborough (96) stand out. However, there’s a notable distinction between taking on roles in movies or TV and engaging in live music tours.
Nonetheless, Nelson is still scheduling performances and captivating audiences with his shows, an impressive feat as he approaches his 90th year.
